Halloran

A quiet office corridor with every door open and daylight falling across the floor

About

Fourteen people.
No account layers.

We stayed small on purpose — every client gets a partner, not a rotating team of juniors.

Our story

We met on opposite sides of the same story.

Two armchairs facing each other across a small table with a newspaper and two cups

In 2012, Elena Halloran was the agency lead pitching a story about a company Marcus Voss was the in-house head of communications for. The story ran. It was mostly wrong, and both of them could see exactly where it went wrong: the senior people got involved after the reporter had already written the first draft in their head.

Two years later they started Halloran around one rule: the most experienced person in the room does the work from the first call, not the review at the end. Priya Nair joined in 2016 to build the crisis practice, and wrote the rapid-response protocol the firm still runs today.

We’ve grown to fourteen people and deliberately stopped there. Growing past that would mean account layers, and account layers are the thing our clients hired us to avoid.

Point of view

Four things we believe about reputation.

Reputation is built on ordinary weeks.

The companies that survive a bad headline are the ones reporters already understood before it. Visibility during the quiet months is what earns the benefit of the doubt in a loud one. That’s why most of our work isn’t crisis work at all.

Judgement doesn’t delegate well.

Knowing when to speak, when to hold and when to walk away from a story takes years of watching stories play out. You can’t hand that to someone in their first year and review it later. So we don’t.

Reporters are an audience, not a channel.

A journalist is deciding whether your story is worth their readers’ time. We pitch the way we’d want to be pitched: fewer, better, and specific to what they actually cover. It’s slower to set up and far faster to land.

Legal and communications should sit together.

Most damaging statements are either legally safe and publicly disastrous, or the other way round. We draft with counsel from the first hour, so you don’t have to choose.

Figures as of September 2026.

We say no more than we say yes.

We take on a limited number of active clients at a time — so a crisis call gets a partner who already knows your business, not one meeting you for the first time.

We also turn down work we’re not the best firm for. If you need a consumer social campaign, a paid-media buy or a product launch event, we’ll introduce you to someone who does it better. And we don’t take on clients whose position we couldn’t defend in good conscience. That protects our judgement, and it protects your reputation by association.

Who we’re a good fit for

  • Companies of 50–2,000 people with something specific at stake

  • Leadership teams who want counsel, not just output

  • Situations where the press, regulators or investors are the audience that matters
